Let’s examine these steps in more detail below.
Use File Doctor to Repair the Damaged Company File
QuickBooks comes with a feature that allows the software to attempt repairs on damaged company files. Called File Doctor, the feature works on QuickBook Pro and can help you fix the problem. It specifically tries to repair damage to the network or to the company file. Run File Doctor and see if it helps to troubleshoot the issue.
Use the Refresher Tool to Refresh the Desktop App
To follow this step, you will need to visit the QuickBooks website and download the Quickbooks File Refresher tool. This will store the file on the designated drive, after which you need to access the download and enter the file titled qbrefresherv1.exe. The file will open and display a list of on-screen instructions for you to follow and refresh all files on your QuickBooks desktop app. Close Quickbooks and any other open windows. After allowing a few minutes for the refresh, the tool will fix common issues in the company file. You should be able to access it again.
Rename QuickBooks Files
You will need to access the file directory using Windows File Manager for this step. When you open File Manager, you need to go to the QuickBooks Installation Directory. From there, look for the files named the same as your company files. Note that two of these files will be labeled “.TLG” and “.ND”. Rename both files and add “.OLD FILE” to the existing file name. After this, you should be able to access your company file on the software. If this fails, then you can always try the next step. also always go with a Cheap laptop AC adapter for Lptop long life.
Hard Reset All Network Devices Including Server
Locate and restart the server that hosts your QuickBooks company file. Manually restart all computers and laptops that are connected to the company network. Let the server boot QuickBooks, then open it on all computers on the network. This may seem like a very basic fix but you will be surprised how often it fixes the problem. however Always choose the best Laptop Battery for your laptop for its best performance.
Store the Company File Locally
This is ideally a last-ditch effort when all of the above options have failed to correct the problem. Use a USB flash drive or storage device to make a copy of your QuickBooks company file. Once copied, connect the USB to your workstation and try to open the company file. Do this by accessing the desktop app and navigating to the company file on your computer’s local drive. This may sound as easy as trying to watch TV without cable, but be sure to keep a backup of the company file in case this doesn’t work. You don’t want to lose all that data and records to a botched file transfer.
